If you’re an early riser (even on the weekends), head down to Salcedo Market on a Saturday morning for a nice walk and a foodie fix. Known for its copious selection of cuisines, be prepared to devour on the stall crawl. The market also offers fresh produce, meat, and seafood if you’d like to do a quick grocery shop while helping small, local start-ups too. And if you’ve picked up the trend of fellow plantitos and plantitas of Manila, no worries, you’ll find plants here as well. 

Grabbing coffee in the area is a must, especially with the amount of cafes in the area–Toby’s Estate, Cartel Coffee Deli, Yardstick Coffee, and Wildflour Bakery, to name a few. Awake and energized, with cold brew in hand, head on over to The Grey Market if you’re a fan of vinyls.  

If you’d rather beat the heat, Greenbelt is a quick stroll away, making it convenient to shop for your vape items. From vape devices, accessories, pods, to e-juice, Fuma is the place, located both in Greenbelt 1 and Greenbelt 3. And if you can’t find what you need there, pop by their other branch in Glorietta 4.

BGC has grown to be another weekend hotspot for both expats and locals alike. With Burgos Circle catering to outdoor diners and The Fort blocking off roads along Bonifacio High Street, many flock here to chill, browse, and dine. The streets are bike and scooter friendly and loved by families and pawrents.  

There’s lots to do from visiting the plant market outside Central Square, taking your pets for a walk, passing by Arabica or Because Coffee for a cup of coffee to shopping and most definitely eating. Restaurants like Din Tai Fung, Mendokoro, Mecha Uma, Pizzulu, Wildflour, Manam (and the list goes on) are all within walking distance. You can check out Fully Booked for some good reads or walk to MO_Space if you’d like to see contemporary art.  

And when you and your friends are out of coils, e-juice, or pods, you can count on Planet Vape in Karport to cater to your vape needs. A little farther out, but still Taguig, lies another branch in Mckinley Hill Tuscany.

Pasig City

In the eastern side of the metropolis is Pasig. Despite the streets being less crowded, parts of the city still stay busy during the weekends.  

With everything close by, you can visit the malls but also enjoy the lesser-known activities and establishments in the area. Greenfield District has been popular for Pasig residents for years with The Greenfield Weekend Market and its central park. Differing from Salcedo Market, Greenfield offers food and other knick-knacks from home decor, art, vintage items to clothes and books. The Saturday bazaar closes late so you can get your zzZ’s in before driving over. However, if you’d like to try something active and different before joining the market, pass by Climb Central where you can learn to boulder or rock-climb. You never know, it might just be your new-found hobby.  

Nearby, an oldie but a goodie, particularly notorious for its food, is worth a visit. Kapitolyo has been the home of good grub and memorable nights for years and still is to this day. Kanto Freestyle, Warung Kapitolyo, Ricksha Streetside Tandoor, Three Little Pigs, Titto’s Latin BBQ & Brew, and RM 16 are just a couple of the establishments in the area. And if you’d want to try bowling, Studio 300 is just around the corner, located at the Pioneer Center where Planet Vape set up shop too.

This commercial hub is huge and can be overwhelming, but is also a treasure trove when you know where to go.

It continues to stay alive with concept stores, restaurants, secondhand boutiques, and speakeasies but is now a quieter space. It is still worth exploring to see a different side of Manila, despite its evolvement.  

The city is also known for its restaurants, cafes, and art galleries, so come with an empty stomach and the desire to discover. Maginhawa Street is a necessity to visit, presenting a range of affordable, hole-in-the-wall eats that represent our foodie culture. Other notable restaurants and cafe to take note of are La Spezia, Common Folk, Jiro Coffee, and Tra Vinh.  Your culturally-filled day in QC can come to an end after a trip to UP Vargas Museum, Ateneo Art Gallery, or Galerie Stephanie.
